Sweet’n\'Sour

louisvuittonjosephine.jpgThis doctor-style purse from the Louis Vuitton is a great example of vintage-chic done right: by that I mean that the design still has a modern twist to it with the print and the colour. Not quite as bright as some of the colours we’ve seen this season, this bag is very sweet with its cherry-pink hue.

Going by the very elegant name of the Josephine, it’s a sleek yet sturdy canvas purse, with cowhide trim and gold hardware.

It’s quite a youngish bag — very reminiscent of the doctors-and-nurses toys they sell in kids stores.

A very different, tangy purse from Louis Vuitton.

Vuitton Vernis

louis vuitton vernis purseI like to see designers try new stuff every once in a while — it’s always good to know they’re keeping on their toes and moving with the times. Plus it stops things from getting boring.

This little bag from Louis Vuitton, known rather interestingly as the ‘Sac Maple Drive’, is a nice example of a fasion house dipping its toes in unfamiliarish water. It’s made of a patent leather that looks disarmingly like shiny toffee with a cowhide opening and trim which doubles as a handle.

The hardware is gold, and the leather has the Louis Vuitton monogram stamped all over it: if it weren’t such an expensive snack, I’d certainly try to eat it…

It’s Not You, It’s Me

LV tote blue.JPGWhat, did you think we were all toted out over here? Without ever featuring a LV tote? C’mon, now. If you didn’t know an LV tote even existed, I’m here to tell you it does and hey, it’s pretty damn nice.

This one is made from a gorgeous blue patent leather, with leather handles, gold hardware and… I really, really love that colour blue. LV could make leather handcuffs in that colour blue and I would immediately feature them on the site. It’s just beautiful.

Plus it’s a tote! And the Louis Vuitton insignia is almost invisible with that colour! And you get to carry lots of junk around with you and still look stylish!

See… I can learn to love ole’ Louis. Just always look for the positive and it will be found!

Seriously, it’s a great bag. I just wish to Jaysus they would tone down that logo of theirs… just a smidgen…

But then, it just wouldn’t be Louis Vuitton, now would it?

Louis-Ra

vuittonblue.JPGThere are three things in life that will always remain constant: death, taxes, and Louis Vuitton handbags. Say what you will about them (and a lot has already been said) they have passed the test of time — and when I say ‘time’, I’m talking about Fashion Time — about four times as fast as Regular Time.

In fashion years, Louis Vuitton is ancient. They should have become either grossly unfashionable by now (hello, Burberry) or a quiet classic — instead they remain extremely trendy and covetable, both because of and in spite of that damned monogram plastered all over the place.

This little shoulder bag is the Mini Pleaty: denim material meticulously worked over to look as genuinely vintage as possible. Gold and cowhide complete the look of the purse which is, I have to grudgingly admit, immensely cute.

Louis, you get a thumbs up from me… I know when I’m up against the ever-living!

Louis, Louis

Louis Vuitton PurseRemember that episode of Newlyweds when Jessica insisted on taking "Louis" camping with her and everyone made fun?

Well, look at how pretty it is. Can you really blame her for not wanting to be too far from it? Designed by the godlike Takashi Murakami for Vuitton, it’s a candy-lovers dream purse — canvas rather than leather, with cowhide handles and trim. You could take this camping and not worry about it coming to any real harm — after all, it’s not like it’s leather or suede, right? And what else are you going to carry around mosquito repellent in?

Exactly, see, Jessica isn’t so silly.

I’ve always been slightly unsure about Louis Vuitton… probably because I don’t think it’s quite kosher to have your monogram ALL OVER the purse. A tiny little label somewhere would suffice, but then again, this is Louis Vuitton we’re talking about here: the most conspicuous of conspicuous consumerism. It simply wouldn’t be Louis Vuitton if they were all subtle, and let’s face it, if anyone can get away with such blatant look-at-me-ism, they can.
