Jacob’s Carry-On

marc jacobs bauletto bagNow here’s a bag thats gives the world assurance of a bag.

It’s the Medium Satin Bauletto Bag from Marc Jacobs — a glory of gorgeous leather, trim canvas, golden hardware and an adjustable strap.

This is a purse that can be relied on — everything about it is firm and strong, yet glossy and beautiful.

The chocolate tones are saved from drabness by the sheer luxury of the material: it’s a rich, wholesome bag that is charmingly grown-up and worldly — just look at that luggage tag on the front.

A lovely, practical purse from Marc Jacobs.

Dooney Tattoo

dooney and bourke tattooThis delightful addition to the Dooney & Bourke collection goes by the rather fetching name of the Tattoo Heart Banana Bag.

It’s made of a leather/cotton combo with a very sheer layer of vinyl to give it that slighty shiny quality - the lining is leather, and it has a chain handle.

The design is very similar to the classic Hearts collection — at least, from a distance it is. Up close it is very different, with the tattoo look contrasting beautifully against the white background.

Altogether an extremely cute, sexy little purse that can just be stared at and stared at and stared at…

Eighties Spade

kate-spade-bette.jpgThis fabulously cartoonish purse from Kate Spade has a certain humour about it that makes it stand out.

The bag is called the Larabee Noel Bette — it’s trimmed with calf leather and has gold hardware.

It’s certainly not a bag for everyone — the colour is nice but the larabee dots make it look like an art student’s purse, or perhaps the perfect accessory for ladies who are indulging in the current craze for fifties prints — or eighties funkiness.

Either way, have fun!

Juicy Cabana

juicy couture bowler bagSummer is coming, friends.

Oh, I know right now it’s cold and grey — spring alone probably seems a lifetime away.

Well, fear not!

This purse from Juicy Couture is what we like to call a Pollyanna purse: a little ray of sunshine in all our lives. Just look at it: pink terry cotton leather combination, with a bronzey palm-tree applique on the front of it. Leather trim and "Love P&G" scross the back gives it a perfect finish.

I don’t know where this Isle de Juicy is, but I know I want to be there!

Dooney McBourke

dooney and bourke bag.JPGThis is an extremely good-looking little bag — so good-looking that I had to say something about it.

Dooney & Bourke have a whole line of purses with this tartan print — this one pictured is called the North/South Bucket Bag. Made of a cotton/leather mix with plaid twill, this tote is simply brimming with character.

It’s like Burberry crossed with the Blue Man Group — quality and fun with lots of vibrant, joyous colour and energy.

Och aye, away wi’ ye!

Shopping With Vuitton

louisvuittonshopper.jpgOnce again, I am at a loss as to how to judge.

I like this bag, really I do. It’s the Globe Shopper Cabas from Louis Vuitton, made of a unique cotton-canvas material that is both attractive and hardy. The trim is cowhide and the sides are adjustable so that you can make this tote as large or as small as required.

Now, you may have noticed the rather huge mustard-yellow Louis Vuitton logo on the front — that whole retro thing is extremely fashionable right now, so kudos to Louis & Co. for staying up to date.

The thing is — it <i>is</i> such a large logo. And yes, usually Louis Vuitton have their logo all over the purse, so I suppose it’s quite nice and restrained of them to only have it on the front, even if it is, as I said… <i>huge</i>.

When all is said and done — it’s unique. It’s jaunty. And hey, it’s Louis Vuitton. You know what you’re dealing with here, folks!

Kooban Adventures

kooba.jpgThere’s something very Indiana Jones-ish about the general air of this bag — it looks like something you could take on travels with you without worrying too much about spoiling it.

The bag is called Scarlett, from Kooba — it’s made of a leather far softer than the picture would suggest, with a lovely weathered look to it and an almost metallic sheen to the colour. The hardware is old-fashioned brass, with drawstring sidepockets.

A great bag for non-girly girls as well as girly girls on safari. Available in a variety of colours!

Roman Riches

versace.jpgWhenever I hear the word ‘Versace’ these days, this purse right here is the one that comes to mind: the Logo Jacquard Bag.

The jacquard material itself is exquisite — intricately woven detail — you know just from touch that it’s been made with care. The purse has gold hardware, a chain handle and so many straps I don’t even know where to start.

I love this purse because it’s so reminiscent of old Italy — or rather, old Rome. The gold and white, the pattern on the fabric, the sumptuous gorgeousness of the whole thing — it’s the epitome of luxury and decadence.

Beauty and quality, and conspicuous consumption in one easy package — you can’t ask for more than that.

Egyptian Gucci

guccigoldlame.JPGHere’s something a little unusual for the season: the gold GG Lame from Gucci.

This little purse isn’t brightly coloured like all the other ‘in’ purses right now - it’s quite old-fashioned in terms of style and very Arabian Nights in terms of design.

Gold is one of the hardest looks to pull off — it’s so easy for it to look tacky or overdone. This purse, however, works. It looks elegant and tasteful, because of the gold rather than in spite of it.

The zipper has a strangely lovely little crystal fly attached to it — a crystal fly with gold wings.

It’s a very striking purse, even if it isn’t strictly beautiful - it catches your eye and keeps your attention for quite a while.

A very intriguing bag from Gucci…

Celine Powder Pink

celine-poulbot-purse.JPGThis delicious-looking little purse is from Celine’s Grained Calf line, one of the stars of their fall/winter line.

It’s made of a lovely pink leather, with brass hardware and stud detail. It’s a very chic, pretty purse — even though it’s part of the winter line, it has a very sunny, springtime look to it — perfect for taking you from the end of winter into sunnier days.

Very Celine, very sexy, very sweet!
