Lady D

ladyD.JPGWe are in the midst of a rather bitter winter at the moment, so it’s always a pleasure to rest eyes on anything even vaguely comforting. Now there are many different levels of comfort — anything from being reminded of warmer climes to being reminded of a warm bed.

Now, this lovely purse — the Lady Dior Mini Cannage Bag — is definitely on the latter end of the scale, with its cushiony vintage cannage embroidery and uber-soft calfskin leather. The fat little handles will be easy on your poor winter-chapped hands, or perhaps you would prefer to use the shoulder strap and keep your hands well undercover?

Whichever way you choose, I’m more than certain you’d be happy with this darling purse, it’s just so warm and inviting.

And I bet you thought I liked it just because it was pink! Oh, ye of little faith…

Burberry Blues

burberrypos.JPGWe’re back to Burberry again, folks, because I’m more than a little suspicious that quite a few people will have this bag on their Christmas lists.

Going by the rather awkward name of the Prorsum, It’s a nice big roomy purse made of canvas, with creamy-brown leather trimming and handles and brass hardware. Very, very nice.

I think I know what I always find slightly off-putting about Burberry… that signature check has been faked so many times now that even the genuine Burberry purses look like fakes. At least with a fake Fendi or Kate Spade, you can’t really tell what ‘make’ it is from a distance — it could be anything, really.

Burberry, on the other hand, is so distinctive that it’s immediately noticable and, thanks to the tons of fakes, almost common-looking now.

It really is a pity, because the purse itself is top-notch in terms of craftsmanship and care. It’s just the image of the label itself that is slipping somewhat. And that is sad.

Ah, me.

It’s Not You, It’s Me

LV tote blue.JPGWhat, did you think we were all toted out over here? Without ever featuring a LV tote? C’mon, now. If you didn’t know an LV tote even existed, I’m here to tell you it does and hey, it’s pretty damn nice.

This one is made from a gorgeous blue patent leather, with leather handles, gold hardware and… I really, really love that colour blue. LV could make leather handcuffs in that colour blue and I would immediately feature them on the site. It’s just beautiful.

Plus it’s a tote! And the Louis Vuitton insignia is almost invisible with that colour! And you get to carry lots of junk around with you and still look stylish!

See… I can learn to love ole’ Louis. Just always look for the positive and it will be found!

Seriously, it’s a great bag. I just wish to Jaysus they would tone down that logo of theirs… just a smidgen…

But then, it just wouldn’t be Louis Vuitton, now would it?

What Kate Did Next

katespadesuede.jpgIt’s time to play one of my favourite purse-related games: Guess The Material!

Take a look at this bag from Kate Spade. Take a good hard look, then ask yourself: what, exactly, is this purse made of? Leather? Plastic? Nylon? Aluminum foil?

The answer, my friend, is none of the above. What we have here is a silver, metallic pig-suede material (yes, very unusual) purse.

Close inspection will reveal the classic Kate Spade larabee and hardware — from a distance, though, it just looks like a really cool, slouchy, seasonally metallic bag.

And the best part? The name itself: Ischia Gabi. I mean, just how captivating is that?

What, this old thing? Oh, it’s just my Ischia Gabi from Kate Spade. Mmmm, it is rather gorgeous, I suppose. No, you can’t borrow it.

I think that just might be my favourite purse-name, ever. Now, my other favourite purse-related games are Spot The Fake! and How (Not) To Buy From Ebay, both of which will be featured soon enough. Watch this space, folks.

Juicy Music

juicy couture ipod.JPGNow this is a seasonal offering I can really appreciate.

What a perfect little gift — a pink leather iPod holder from Juicy Couture, with sweet little charms hanging off the gold chain. It’s just the most adorable little thing, so pretty and little and charming. I think I just might like this best out of all the fancy iPod holders out there (yes, even those lovely Kate Spade ones).

This is probably the sort of thing a guy would give to a girl he’s been going out with for that awkward amount of time where it’s been long enough to have to — to want to — get something really nice, but not long enough for it to be overly romantic or overbearing.

So, voila! A cute little iPod holder from the trendionishta’s at Juicy Couture.

Perfect!

Dior Daintiness

diorpretty.jpgYou know that sketch from Little Britain with the Victorian-cross-dresser who insists he’s a laaaady? Well, he’d love this purse.

It’s a beautiful little vintage-design handbag made of white leather, with delicate, detailed stitching and silver hardware. It’s almost oriental, yet stays just this side of the line that divides it from a very innocent, wholesome English look.

I’m not terribly enamoured with the hanging ‘C’ and ‘D’, but otherwise it’s a lovely daytime purse… if it were summer you could take it to classical concerts at the park, or perhaps to Wimbledon, though at this time of year though it’s mostly a sweet reminder that, contrary to what one might be feeling, winter does not last forever.

Most diverting!

Louis-Ra

vuittonblue.JPGThere are three things in life that will always remain constant: death, taxes, and Louis Vuitton handbags. Say what you will about them (and a lot has already been said) they have passed the test of time — and when I say ‘time’, I’m talking about Fashion Time — about four times as fast as Regular Time.

In fashion years, Louis Vuitton is ancient. They should have become either grossly unfashionable by now (hello, Burberry) or a quiet classic — instead they remain extremely trendy and covetable, both because of and in spite of that damned monogram plastered all over the place.

This little shoulder bag is the Mini Pleaty: denim material meticulously worked over to look as genuinely vintage as possible. Gold and cowhide complete the look of the purse which is, I have to grudgingly admit, immensely cute.

Louis, you get a thumbs up from me… I know when I’m up against the ever-living!
